The damper's purpose on a floor register is to regulate the airflow and has traditionally been made from steel with multiple moving parts. The problem with steel is it rusts causing the damper to become inoperable over time. Plastic on the other hand does not rust and can be molded reducing the number of parts required. So when Decor Grates wanted to improve the quality of its products without increasing the cost we choose plastic.

Our damper has two parts the many body and a slider which moves back and forth regulating the airflow. Try opening one of your floor registers and see how easy it is to open, if it will open at all. You'll have to pick it up and hold it with both hands while trying to rotate the wheel or lever and if that doesn't work you can manipulate the levers at the bottom by hand.

Not so with a Decor Grate floor register, our dampers can be easily slid from side to side by hand or foot while it is still in the floor. Another advantage to having a Decor Grate floor register is our unique filtering system, which can be added to 3x10, 4x10, 2x12 and 4x12 floor registers.

Decor has designed a plastic grid that snaps onto the bottom of the damper to hold in its "Pristene" high loft filters which adds very little resistance to airflow that would cause your system to work inefficiently, but captures four times as many dust partials as small as .05 microns.
